Dear Parents/Guardians,

Each spring, students who are recommended for potential placement in the Accelerated program at Dixon Public Schools are given an additional test to gain more insight into their academic functioning and ability.  The OLSAT (Otis-Lennon School Ability Test) is a computerized assessment that measures general ability and is used by many school districts across the United States in placing students within advanced classes.  OLSAT results, as well as other criteria, will be used to determine placement in the Accelerated program.  Parents may request that their child take the test or they may be recommended by their teacher.  Any student wishing to be considered for placement in an Accelerated class must take the test.  If you are interested in your child taking the test and are not a current Accelerated student, please contact Mr. Sagel by phone (815-934-9662) or email (jsagel@dps170.org).  All students in the Accelerated program currently will be tested unless parents choose to opt their child out of the test.   If you have any questions or are interested in more information about the OLSAT test or Accelerated programming available, please contact your child’s teacher or principal.  Thank you.
